The History of Parcelforce
The Royal Mail Group first started delivering parcel post back in 1883, using parcel services ran by railway companies. Later, Red Star and British Road Services would also be used. In 1986, Royal Mail was split into three separate divisions, and it was in 1990 that Royal Mail Parcels was rebranded Parcelforce, the setup of which was overseen by Gary Simpson. In 2002, Parcelforce decided to concentrate on next day and two-day express deliveries, leaving the universal parcel service to Royal Mail.
In 2007, they were also the first express delivery company in the UK to allow customers the choice of offsetting the carbon emissions associated with the delivery of their packages. Customers were given the opportunity to donate to the Woodland Trust, which Parcelforce would match – 5p for UK and 10p for international deliveries.
The delivery network expanded in 2012, with new centres opening in Cornwall, Hampshire and Lancashire after Royal Mail invested £75 million in Parcelforce World Wide.
