First Direct was formed in 1989 and became part of HSBC in 1992 following their purchase of previous parent company, Midlands Bank. First Direct are offering new customers a £50 reward for switching current accounts and joining them. There are some conditions though:

  1. You’ll need a current account and pay in at least £1000 within the first 3 months of opening it.
  2. Once open, you need to instruct them to use the Current Account Switch Service. This moves your banking from your old account to them. This can take 7 days and the date is agreed prior to the movement.
  3. They’ll then reward your account with £50.

They also offer customers who are planning on leaving the branch with a £100 leaving gift due to their confidence in keeping customers banking with them. If you decide to leave after 6 months and have deposited £1000 in that time, then First Direct will deliver the money to you within 28 days of the criteria being met.
