The History of Euro Car Parts
Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia, a refugee who was forced to flee from Uganda at the age of 13, founded Euro Car Parts in 1978. He borrowed £5,000 from his father and the bank in order to purchase a struggling car parts shop called Highway Autos, located in Willesden, North London.
By 1981 the company was doing so well that another London branch was opened. In 1984 they began to import and distribute parts for German carmakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz, until this point they had concentrated solely on British makes.
1993 saw Euro Car Parts opening its first branch outside London. They began importing parts for other makes of cars in 2000 Porsche, VW, Audi, SAAB and Volvo, with Peugeot, Renault and Citroen following closely in 2001.
The company was awarded the Best Independent Car Parts Supplier of the Year award in 2005, the start of a great many awards they were to receive over the coming year.
In 2010 The RAC contracted Euro Car Parts to supply components to their entire fleet of roadside patrol vehicles.
In 2011 Mr Sigh sold Auto Car Parts to an American Company, LKQ Corporation for a total of £255 million, and although he stayed in an advisory capacity, he left in 2014 to pursue other interests. Later in 2014 he re-joined the company on the board of directors of LKQ Corporation
Euro Car Parts Today
Euro Car Parts has now grown to include 200 branches nationwide, and the most recent one to be opened is the Manchester branch, which is situated on Moss Lane and opened in December 2015.
The company has around 9000 employees in total at their 200 branches, 16 distribution centres and their bulk storage facility that is situated in Bonehill, Staffordshire. The company was one of the main sponsors of Shaun Muir Racing (SMR) in the World Superbike Championship 2016.
